A Little Bit Over Halfway...

...On more than one WIP! I decided to use my FO victory as a jump start for some WIP reduction. I have attempted this before (generally after a foray into the basket of abandoned projects), to little avail. Now though, while I believe the basket will never be emptied, i figure I can at least shrink the number of unfinished projects that are strewn about my room.

As mentioned earlier, my little yarny space in the attic may hinder my WIP start rate since the yarn is no longer an arm's length away. This seems to have proven true, as I have time on the way upstairs to consider whether I really need a lip-shaped pillow, or whether it is really wise to knit yet ANOTHER sweater for my dog after she chewed the last one. Also, a majority of my knitting books and patterns are upstairs as well while they are not being used for a current WIP, so my obnoxiously delusional imagination has not had any source of encouragement. These factors paired with the high of finishing four items in one fell swoop have kept me from starting anything new. Well, that and the fact that I am out of both sock yarn and the money to buy more.

So finally, the big halfway-reveal...

The first of the Butterfly Socks is finally off the needles, thank god. I thought it would never end.

Don't get me wrong, the pattern is great. I loved the irregular rib, and the butterflies on the sides are pretty darn cute. The gauge is my issue...I usually knit my socks in a few days on size #2 US dpn's. This called for size #0, so my usual quick fix became something that actually required perseverance, and was abandoned for a while before I finally came back to it.

The other over-halfway WIP is my Dad's Manly Scarf, just a garter stitch scarf with color blocks.

The other day I finally reached the second skein of black Wool-Ease Chunky, indicating my halfway point. Granted this may be because I lost what was left of the first skein, but let's not ruin a beautiful moment.

Psych!

Well well well...with my share of midterms over, I have no school today through sunday, and figured I'd at least get a the Butterfly Socks done, if not one of my scarves-in-progress as well. Ha. Fate had other ideas...

My poor little Millie, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the younger of my two dogs, has been sick for a few days and really kicked it up a notch last night :( I won't go into unpleasant gory details, but I have been put on round-the-clock dog duty so my dad can meet his work deadlines and my mom can actually get into her office today. My sister has school this fine thursday since the elementary kids don't have midterms, so I have no one to give me a little knit break. *sigh* I just suppose I'll have to content myself with my FO victories as of late, and try to remember not to get too greedy...you can't have everything in life after all!

A Quick Catchup and Some Progress...

Alright...many FO's to report. Well, four, but that's four more than last time! :)

Most recently was a pair of Fetchings in some clearance Moda Dea Eclipse, Nile Green, for my friend Robin. The yarn itself is encased in almost a netting of silvery stuff, so I figured it would be just her style. She loved them, and they're up on Ravelry already. (Well, so is everything else, but that's quite an accomplishment for me...most of my projects are still picture-less).

Next picture in line...a pair of socks for my friend Emily. The Yarn Harlot's Basic Sock Recipe, Kroy sock yarn, Kool Stripes colorway. I ran out of yarn for each toe due to many false starts on some more, erm, interesting patterns, so they don't line up with the rest of the stripe sequence. I could have lined them up, but I figured she's a little quirky herself in the most endearing way possible so the mess-up fit her perfectly!

Alright...next up, I finished a pair of mittens from Selbuvotter, Annemor #16. I tried to loosen up on the second one to nix any puckering, and ended up with a large puckered mitten :P It's hardly anything to worry about though, as they're super warm even for being so fine and all of my friends are impressed :) Sorry I only have a palm picture...the picture of the back didn't save correctly.

Now forgive the horrendous lighting in the final picture, but what you see is a pair of Monkey socks for my friend Abby, knit out of Lion Brand Sock-Ease in Sour Ball. My mom attempted to con them from me before I could bring them into school to give them away, but they got to their destination safe and sound so all is well.

Ahhh...it's so great to not only finish something, but to bother to photograph and post about it! (Like that tea cozy that never got catalogued...right...) I'm on a roll, so I'll have to keep it up and crank out some new stuff that has been sitting idle for months. I've got my fingers crossed! Wish me luck!

GAH!!!!

Oh wow...so busy...so distracted...so little knitting time!

Midterms are in two weeks, and there are a multitude of impromptu unit tests between then and now. A messy breakup has been making the social aspect of my life interesting these past few weeks, and there has been no FO's at all. On the plus side however, is some new yarn organization...

My mom was disgusted by the state of my room, and demanded a full-fledged clean out. We soon realized how much knitting was hindering our attempts...needles, books, mountains of yarn, and baskets of temporarily abandoned WIP's. What did we do? Well, I now have the beginnings of my own fiber area (which I'm sure will soon become a room) in my attic! The larger of my two dressers was placed upstairs for pricier yarn with handmade scented soap in each drawer, and FO storage, with accessories on top. There are baskets of WIP's, plastic drawers of cheapo yarn, and shelves of yet more yarn on the sides. Pretty soon I hope to set up my dad's old drawing table for my sewing machine, and have all of my fabric and embellishments organized too. (See what I meant by the area shall soon become an entire room?)

The only problem with this fabulous arrangement is that I have to walk up two flights of stairs any time I need anything...but on the plus side I'll have super toned glutes, and I might be a little less impulsive in my beginning new projects :)
